Abstract

This study aims to address the challenges of teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Kazakhstan, particularly in terms of grammar learning and student engagement. The traditional deductive approach to grammar teaching has proven to be insufficient, resulting in low motivation and poor learning performance among students. To overcome these challenges, the article presents the “Aengime” project, which incorporates gamification elements into the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) methodology. The main objective of the study is to propose an alternative solution that will improve grammar learning and increase student motivation by integrating communicative tasks with game elements. The “Aengime” project is designed to accommodate different learning styles (kinesthetic, visual, auditory) and levels of preparation, allowing students to actively participate in the learning process. The research methodology is based on the communicative approach, supplemented by game tasks, such as card games and role-playing exercises, which help to reinforce grammar constructions through interaction. The study highlights that this methodology helps increase student engagement and improve grammar understanding. The main findings show that students who participated in the “Aengime” project demonstrated significant improvements in both their motivation to learn and their application of grammar rules in real-life situations. The value of the study is the use of artificial intelligence, online games and board games together, which is an innovation and contributes to the development of foreign language teaching methods. The practical significance of the study lies in its potential to change approaches to EFL teaching, making learning more engaging and effective. The study materials have been tested and implemented in the educational process of one of the universities in Astana.
