FUNCTIONS OF WORDS WITH OPPOSITE MEANINGS IN TEXTS OF DIFFERENT STYLES

Abstract

The article is written in order to analyze the linguistic and stylistic activity of linguistic units of opposite meaning. The article analyzes the activity of linguistic units with the opposite meaning in the Kazakh language in various styles. The classification of types of style is developed, the definition of the term stylistic activity is given. The examples confirm to what extent linguistic units of opposite meaning are used in different styles, in what style they can serve for the rational transmission of thought. The main conclusions are made by analyzing the texts of fiction, advertising, journalism, in which antonyms are often used. The linguistic influence of the opposed linguistic means in the system of mass communication is considered.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the linguistic and stylistic activity of linguistic units of opposite meaning. To achieve this goal, methods of analysis, differentiation, and mass sampling were used as research methods. The words found in the materials of modern Kazakh prose and the newspaper "Egemen Kazakhstan", taken as an object of research, are differentiated from the point of view of linguistic activity into types of antonomical opposition and differentiated from the point of view of stylistic activity into stylistic figures of contrast. The juxtaposition encountered in the advertising text is analyzed according to pragmatic activity.

As a result of the study, the pragmatic, stylistic functions of linguistic units of opposite meaning in texts of different styles are determined from the point of view of stylistic figures based on contrast. The definition of stylistic figures is important in the ability to use language units rationally.  

Scientific significance of the study: the conclusions given in the article complement the fields of the theory of antonyms, lexicology, stylistics in Kazakh linguistics. The theoretical conclusions of the study contribute to the understanding of the relationship between language and thinking, language and speech, the linguistic and stylistic function of opposite linguistic units. The materials obtained as a result of the research can be used in compiling an antonymic dictionary, as practical material for research and lectures in this direction.
