This article presents a modern view of the semantics of polypredicative constructions with the auxiliary verb “dep” in the context of the cognitive aspect of the Kazakh language. Despite the fact that the function and semantics of constructions with the auxiliary verb “dep” have already been studied from the point of view of the structural grammar of the Kazakh language, semantics of these constructions has not been fully disclosed due to the lexical meaning of the auxiliary verb “de” – “speak”.
Cognitive syntax is a part of cognitive grammar that studies linguistic expression of mental categories and strategies of human consciousness. A distinctive feature of the cognitive direction in modern syntax is that it allows one to show complex relationships between mental and conceptual categories and specific linguistic ways of expressing them.
The theoretical basis of this study consists of theories about mental space, concept, conceptualization and categorization, about frames in cognitive linguistics, as well as the theory of prototypes in semantic syntax. The linguistic data of the study are materials obtained from the national corpus of Almaty Kazakh corps, which were analyzed by types of semantic relations.
There was an assessment of function and meaning of the auxiliary verb “dep” in syntactic structures as a linguistic expression of the processes of conceptualization and categorization of cognition. This assessment involved frame analysis with non-linguistic knowledge, which is required to understand the function of the auxiliary verb “dep” in polypredicative constructions.
As a result, cognitive models of polypredicative constructions with the auxiliary verb “dep” were identified for the first time. These are an expression of the goal, the intentions of the subject of action (which is the latter’s motivation), the subject’s actional views about the events taking place.
