The article is devoted to the description of the competencies that need to be developed when teaching a foreign language. The most effective ways of forming a foreign language socio-cultural competence are the use of audio and video materials in the classroom, the use of project technology, both in class and after school hours. The article provides a list of knowledge inherent in native speakers, features of the development of speech etiquette in connection with the study of culture.
