Abstract

Abstract. This article explores the images in Belger's story and how they were translated into English. The main purpose of the article is to study images as the main unit of translation and analyze how well these images were rendered in translation. Possessing five senses of seing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling, we feel and cognize the world around us and gain sensory experience due to it. The image is a manifestation of inner sensory experiences of the writer on a sheet of paper. Each of these five senses finds its manifestation in a linguistic form in a work of art, therefore, we believe that the study of the manifestation of the five senses and their linguistic representation will help us understand in what way literary composition has an emotional and aesthetic impact on us. In this study, we use a technique for studying images in texts according to the five main senses, and this is the novelty of the research work. The technique is still at the stage of its development and the analysis of examples using this technique is experimental one. Having analyzed several images of Herold Belger's story "Abilmazhin" and examples of its translation, we can conclude that all categories of images presents in the story and they are manifested by different linguistic representations of the five senses. These linguistic representations of the five feelings in the image were translated in a variety of ways, which allows us to fixate and clearly illustrate the difference in the transfer of the emotional and aesthetic component of the original in translation. The value of the conducted research lies in the consideration of the concept of the image as a macro-unit of translation and in the experimental application of a new methodology for analyzing the literary text. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that this study represents the understanding of  the “images” concept from various sciences, as well as the application of research results in practice.
