Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the features of the author's neologisms found in JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels. The neologisms created by J.K. Rowling do not cease to arouse interest, since their popularity is inexhaustible: they not only develop imagination, creativity and a non-standard way of thinking, but also carry certain moral and ethical postulates regarding the organization of the world, the rules for the existence of society, the embodiment of love, respect and mutual assistance between coexisting people, that is, these novels have a deep humanistic beginning. The second feature of novels is that their language, including neologisms, contains an impressive amount of linguo-socio-cultural information. The purpose of the proposed article is to summarize the existing scientific results, to identify the specifics of the author's neologisms in J. Rowling's Harry Potter novels, identifying the main ways of their formation, their functions and sources of their occurrence. The theoretical significance of this work: the study of author's neologisms allows one to penetrate into the mechanism of their creation and trace those directions that characterize modern trends in the development of language capabilities. In practical terms, the article shows the informational possibilities of the author's neologisms, which contain information about society, history, culture, and traditions. The article uses such methods as cognitive, semiotic, semantic-morphological, linguoculturological, contextual, allowing to analyze neologisms, revealing their most significant features. The study allows us to present the author's neologisms of J. Rowling as a single semiotic system that contributes to the embodiment of the author's intention of the writer, to create a complete picture of lexical neoplasms in the Harry Potter novels with the classification of the author's vocabulary according to the methods of education, the definition of their pragma-functional orientation and as a means of preserving and transmitting linguo-socio-cultural information. The data obtained testify to the uniqueness and originality of Rowling's author's vocabulary: it is precisely its word-creative possibilities that ensure the uniqueness of the Harry Potter novels, demonstrating the writer's boundless imagination. The neologisms created by her have a high informational energy intensity and allow creating an artistic space that unites eras, countries, and cultures. The results presented in the article demonstrate the great potential of the author's vocabulary created by J. Rowling, the analysis of which makes it possible to identify and describe the main models for the creation and use of author's linguistic neologisms. Such studies contribute to the development of such a science as neology, which deals with the problems of the dynamic process of updating and replenishing the lexical means of a language.
