The article analyses the communicative culture of the Kazakh people, including the communicative and cognitive function of greeting gestures as an important element of the national mental-linguistic complex. The notion of national communicative behaviour, not mentioned in domestic studies, is used for the first time and explained in connection with non-linguistic means. The aim of the study is to analyse the non-verbal techniques studied in Kazakh linguistics from the communicative aspect, i.e. from the position of communicative act - communicative situation - communicants' position, and to reveal their pragmatic and cognitive meaning.
The scientific significance of the research work lies in the fact that, considering nonverbal means in an anthropocentric and functional aspect, new conclusions were made about the national communicative behavior of the Kazakh people. The results of the study will be useful for scientific research in anthropocentric areas, including the Kazakh national culture of communication, the theory of communication.
Practical significance of the study: the results of the study can be used as theoretical material in the fields of studying the cognitive function of language, paralinguistics, theory of communicative acts, cognitive linguistics, etc., as well as in other scientific studies in the field of country studies, psychology, behaviorism, cultural studies, considering the national specifics of the Kazakh people. To achieve key results in the study, theoretical information was differentiated using the method of description and synthesis.
Behavioral method, semantic method and cognitive analysis methods were used in the analysis of language units collected from the epic novel "The Path of Abai".
As a result of the study, several specific conclusions were made:
- in the culture of Kazakh communication, the semantics of bored, farewell, closeness, enmity, kindness are transmitted by nonverbal codes;
- in family communication, the hierarchy of greetings is expressed by non-linguistic means: the boy first greets his father, and then with other family members. When greeting a child with his father, the communicative behavior changes and prosodic techniques are actively used, such as pause, low tone;
- paraelements, along with language information, are the main markers that clearly reflect the attitude, mood, pragmatics of communicants to each other and reflect the specifics of the communicative situation.
