Abstract

As it is well known, Kazakh translation studies took shape as an independent science in the second half of the 20th century as a branch of Soviet translation studies. Accordingly, for a rather long period, the tendencies characteristic of the Soviet, and then for the Russian theory of translation, exerted a significant influence and highlighted the accents in the research of Kazakhstani scholars. This article is a brief overview of the main trends in the Kazakh science of translation for the period from the middle of the twentieth century to the present. A review of the scientific works of Kazakhstani researchers is carried out in the diachronic cut, for each of the periods under consideration. The history of the development of the Kazakh science of translation is conditionally divided into several stages. By analyzing the titles and main topics of scientific works written in different periods, it seems possible to outline in general terms the basic directions in which translation studies developed and keep on developing in Kazakhstan. It should be noted that reviews of this type are quite rare in modern translation studies, which in recent years have focused on the practical aspects of different types of translation. Nevertheless, such kind of review allows not only paying tribute to outstanding scientists of different years, but also lets identify "blank spots" on the map of Kazakhstani translation studies and identify the most neglected areas of translation science. In addition, the study allows us to track the formation of new trends in the considered areas, in particular, the gradual departure of Kazakhstani humanitarian research from topics and methods based only on linguistic theories. Also, it is possible to trace the tendency of modern Kazakhstani translators to shift the focus from studying methods of written translation of exclusively literary texts to studying practical translation models when working with other types of translation and other types of texts..
