Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the Arabic-Persian borrowings of the lexical composition of the dictionary (hereinafter referred to as the Dictionary) of one of the famous figures of Turkic linguistics, an academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, orientalist, archaeologist, ethnographer Vasily Vasilyevich Radlov (Friedrich Wilhelm Radlov) and the current process of their terminology.

The purpose, main direction and idea of the study are intended to reveal the nature of the Arabic-Persian borrowings of the lexical-terminological fund of the Kazakh language.

The article uses the methods of selection, systematization, classification into lexical-semantic groups, semantic grouping, structural, etymological (diachronic), descriptive, synchronic analyses.

The article proves that some words registered in the Dictionary such as archisms and historicisms are currently used in various fields in their terminological meaning; the following features of the Arabic-Persian borrowings registered in it were identified: at the present almost all of them are used in the meaning fixed in the dictionary; they are used as terms; they have several meanings; new words were created by combining suffixes of the Kazakh language; some words are not used in the modern Kazakh language; currently they are used in other meanings; the words with more imprecise meanings are used in collocations; the dictionary provides proper names.

In the article, the terminology of Arabic-Persian words included in the Kazakh language is grouped according to their structural and substantive nature in terms of their use (or non-use) in modern legislative documents and approval (or not approval) at meetings of the Republican Terminology Commission.

The results obtained during the study are as follows: 1) contribute to improving the scientific and theoretical foundations of lexicology and terminology; 2) they can be used for practical purposes when compiling various dictionaries,  in lectures on lexicology, history of language, dialectology, terminology.
