Abstract

This article explores the categorical concept of taza (purity/pure) in the Kazakh language.

The purpose of the study is to analyze and describe the categorical concept of purity in the Kazakh language from the cognitive-semantic aspect. The research methods are definition analysis method, frame-semantic analysis method and linguocultural method. Dictionary definitions of the key lexeme of the purity concept, contained in explanatory dictionaries of the Kazakh language, and data from the language corpus “Almaty Kazakh Tili Corpusy” were base of linguistic data of the study.

Contextual expressions of the purity concept, provided in the article, allows us to emphasize the importance of the purity concept in the Kazakh culture. A common categorical feature of linguistic materials is the seme of the purity, which is actualized in the presence of opposition: “honest” - “dishonest”, “clean” - “dirty”, “fair” - “unfair”. A semantic analysis of the word taza was carried out in different phrases and phraseological units, as well as in synonomic series. The concept, being a cognitive structure, is verbalized in frames, which was the reason for the choice of frame analysis as a research method.

The results of the study allow us to assert that the assessment of objects of cognition from the view of “taza/taza emes” (pure / unclean) formed the ethnic concept of purity in the Kazakh language. The concept of the purity within the anthropocentric paradigm has a multifaceted essence, reflecting various key philosophical and socio-cultural aspects of existence of Kazakh people.

The theoretical significance of the study lies in the fact that it complements a number of Kazakh linguistic worldview concepts studies in the aspect of linguoculturology.

The fact that the results of the analysis can be used in lectures and seminar courses on cultural linguistics, as well as in teaching Kazakh as a second language is practical significance of the study.
