APPLICATIONS OF SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION STRATEGIES: FEATURES OF PERCEPTION AND SPEECH PRODUCTION

The study of simultaneous translation strategies in the context of speech production and perception parameters is relevant because there is a constant updating of both language resources and tools for processing speech flow and automating translation practices. The aim of this study was to establish the interrelationships between speech production and its perception, in particular speech errors and characteristics at different linguistic levels and also used translation strategies. By applying structural and communicative analysis, the features of the linguistic pair “Kazakh” - “Russian” were studied with regard to the application of translation strategies. In the course of this study, quantitative results were obtained regarding the most used translation strategies: anticipation (24.4%), stalling (19.8%), decompression (17.4%) and linguistic prediction (14%). Phonetic difficulties are related to intonation pattern and acoustic characteristics of similar sounds, lexical - to tautology, incorrect translation of non-equivalent vocabulary, morphological - to incorrect use of grammatical forms, inflections, suffixes and syntactic - to word order. It was found that compression and stalling strategies were frequently used at the phonetic level, expectation, stalling and decompression at the lexical level, linguistic prediction, trial, error and decompression at the morphological level, and stalling, compression, linguistic prediction and linearity preservation at the syntactic level. This work can be used to compare differently structured languages for effective strategies used in simultaneous translation, to investigate tools related to automatic speech stream recognition, to study the relationships between linguistic characteristics and used translation techniques.
