Abstract

This article explores the typology of characters and their attributes in literary works themed around urban life in contemporary Kazakh literature. Special attention is paid to the portrayal of artists as principal representatives of urban culture within these texts. The study investigates the development of the concept of «urbanites» through the classification of individuals based on their social circumstances within the city.

The objective of this research is to identify artistic representations that shape the cultural identity of the city, differentiate the artistic profile of the modern city, and determine its position in the artistic realm. Additionally, the paper delves into the artistic essence of the «city» concept, which has been influenced by the currents of postmodernism and its artistic techniques. This research offers the first in-depth study of typical character images related to urban themes in Kazakh literature.

The study examines the depictions of urban heroes in the works of Rakhymzhan Otarbayev, Mukhtar Magauin, Dukenbai Doszhan, Askar Altay, Roza Mukanova, and Yerbolat Abiken, facilitating an understanding of the complexity and diversity of urban life as portrayed in Kazakh literature.

The academic significance of this work lies in its examination of the city's image and the nuances of its formation in contemporary Kazakh prose. Artistic techniques utilized in crafting these images have been identified and analyzed, establishing a new direction in the literary discourse. The practical relevance of the research extends to the literary analysis of the interactions among urban characters and their responses to socio-cultural changes in modern society.

Hermeneutic and comparative methods of research were employed in this scholarly endeavor. Throughout the classification and determination of the typological nature of urban characters in contemporary Kazakh literature, the authors consulted the works of both international and domestic scholars.

The results of this study are applicable to university-level teaching, specifically in theoretical courses such as literary theory and poetics, specialized courses, and seminars that focus on the development of new directions in modern literary studies. The value of this research lies in its analysis of the process of forming typical new character images and identifying emerging trends in the contemporary literary process.

The findings of this study have enabled the articulation of contemporary concepts and the life philosophy of the modern individual, shaped through the literary depiction of the city in contemporary Kazakh literature.
