META REPRESENTATIVES IN THE COGNITIVE STRUCTURE OF AN ARTISTIC TEXT: DECODING OF MEANINGS

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop mechanisms for decoding meanings in the cognitive structure of a literary text by means of meta representatives. These are textual elements that allow reconstructing the initial meaning of a particular object of understanding and at the same time creating its possible metaphorical model. They become certain semantic pillars of a literary text, contribute to the deep disclosure of its aesthetics and philosophy. By their dialogical nature, meta-representatives approach the codes of culture. The distinctive properties of these cognitive units are their plasticity, openness, the ability to recreate the volumetric meanings of various fields of knowledge: philosophy, history, culture, ethnology and many others. An important quality of meta representatives is their connection with other areas of knowledge (cognitive valence), and in some cases there is a value hierarchy. The referential correlation of meta representatives with the previous tradition allows building complex narrative structures. Symbolic meaning can manifest itself at the latent level of perception and subsequent relaying of meaningful cognition. The material of the study was the works of modern Kazakh prose.

          Meta representatives (concepts, universals, stereotypes, actual conceptual metaphors) contribute to the creation of a multidimensional novel whole. The actualization of the abstract meaning in such representative images makes it possible to comprehend the ideosphere of the text, the philosophical and ideological message embedded in it in the widest spatio-temporal and ontological boundaries.      As methodological tools, the provisions of the theory of conceptual metaphor by J. Lakoff, methods and techniques of cognitive analysis, semantic reconstruction, complex literary criticism, narrative analysis, comparative-typological and historical-cultural approach in the interpretation of the concept, its derivatives, textual environment are used. The results of the undertaken research can be applied in the development of issues of the content and functioning of cognitive and narrative structures in texts of different genre nature, conditionally metaphorical system of literary works.
