Abstract

This article discusses the formation, development, as well as the concept of approaches to the translation of Russian literature into Chinese, and indicates that, on the one hand, this concept of translation is limited to social and historical and cultural development, and on the other hand, the level of development of language and literature. The translation of Russian literature is, first of all, a translation activity, as the translation activity of the Chinese translation of Russian literature has its own specifics of existence and development. The main purpose of this article is to study the translation of Russian literature as a translation activity from the point of view of translation studies, to discuss its features, laws and translation concepts embodied in it, which is of great importance for modern literary translation. Based on the study of translations into Chinese of some masterpieces of Russian literature, we see the main goal of the study of the development trajectory of these translations and the influence of Russian literature on Chinese national literature. The article attempts to understand the historical process of translating Russian literary works into Chinese through literary analysis within the framework of big data research methods. By using these methods, we can not only study the quantity, quality of translation and the impact on the then society in each period, but also explore the current state of literary translation and the problems that it faces. As a result, the study of translation theory should begin with specific translation phenomena and facts, and not with the study of the so-called “ideal translation”, which ignores specific cultural and historical backgrounds. The conclusions drawn can help expand the analysis and establish the research direction of literary translation. Based on the conclusions drawn, the author classifies the history of Chinese translations of Russian literature into five stages: (1) the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China; (2) Period of the "May Fourth Movement"; (3) The initial period of formation of "new China"; (4) "Frozen period" of Sino-Soviet relations; (5) "The era of reform and opening up" to the present. The practical significance of Chinese translation activity lies in the analysis of the historical process of translating Russian literary works into Chinese.
