In this article, guanyongyu, a phraseological unit of the modern Chinese language, is considered from the point of view of the theory of metaphors of cognitive linguistics. The goal is to identify the foundations and mechanisms for the formation of the linguistic meaning of phraseological units with a somatic component. The object of the study is the somatic guanyongyu in the modern Chinese language, while the subject is the cognitive processes and mechanisms underlying the formation of the linguistic meaning of a phraseological unit.
This approach made it possible to study the cognitive models of conceptual metaphorization or conceptual metonymization of guanyongyu with a somatic component. The article provides statistical data on the correlation between the types of metaphorization and metonymization of the phraseological unit under study. The cognitive prerequisites for developing a methodology for distinguishing between conceptual metaphor and metonymy are shown. A distinction is made between conceptual metaphor and metonymy. The theoretical base is summed up, including the perception of the external world by consciousness and the allocation in memory of information capable of conceptualizing homogeneous concepts with the help of language.
The study of conceptual metaphor and metonymy was carried out by the method of continuous sampling, cognitive-linguoculturological analysis. As a result, statistical data were derived that the share of partial metaphorization or metonymization in somatic guanyongyu is 37.7% or 222 units of the corpus under study. It is also concluded that conceptual metaphor and metonymy are independent cognitive mechanisms, both on the basis of superficial and deep characteristics of their differentiation. The results obtained can be applied in the further development of the theory of metaphor in relation to Chinese phraseology, in writing a course on cognitive linguistics for students of linguistic areas.
