Abstract

A blog is an electronic diary of a certain person put on public display. Blogs are an integral part of every individual in the modern world. The purpose of this article is to identify the mechanism of strategies and tactics of rhetorical influence in English used in a political blog. The article discusses rhetorical strategies and tactics as an integral part of speech strategies, their specifics, as well as ways of their implementation as verbal components of discourse. The significance lies in the fact that not only the problems of studying rhetorical strategies and tactics are analyzed, but also language indicators (markers) by which one can judge the strategic plan and tactical tasks of the speaker. This study uses semantic and discursive analyses of a political blog. Bloggers of political discourse need a number of strategies and tactics to achieve their goals – to gather their audience, it is interesting to reveal the topic, highlight problems of a socio-political nature, create unique content, promote their ideas. We have found that such strategies include: dramatization strategy, identification strategy, generalization strategy, individualization strategy, dialogization strategy, personalization strategy, topic actualization strategy, expectation enhancement strategy. The theoretical significance is the study of communicative strategies and tactics, especially the study of rhetorical strategies and tactics, as a tool for influencing a person used in political blogs is a central issue in modern linguistics. The practical significance lies in the fact that the results obtained during the research can be used in the preparation of courses on political discourse, pragmalinguistics, rhetoric.
