Abstract

This article discusses the descriptions of the communicative functions of various types of address in modern English. The turn of modern linguistics to the study of speech activity inevitably raised the question of the conditions for the success of its implementation, the ways of transmitting the message to the recipient in the most complete and undistorted form, and the means of influencing the addressee. And at the same time, at the moment there is a need to systematize and structure the accumulated material and analyze the mechanisms of the address of a pragmatic meaning in the speech act of conversion.

The form of address is important for effective and successful communication and has long been considered as important indicator of the state of relations. You can use various forms of address to express your respect or love for other people, insult or humiliate them. In order to address people correctly, several factors must be taken into account, such as the social status or rank of the other, gender, age, family relations, professional hierarchy, race or degree of intimacy.

The main purpose of this article is to comprehensively describe and explore the means of expression and the functioning of the address in the English language. The scientific significance of the work will help to better understand and describe the mechanisms of using appeals in the English language. The practical significance of this research lies in the fact that the results of the practical material can be used in practical courses on written and oral translation and in courses of comparative pragmatics.

The paper implements a comprehensive approach that takes into account the social, structural, speech, communicative and pragmatic aspects of language functioning in the conditions of intercultural contacts of communicants. This model of analysis integrates linguoculturology, intercultural communication, pragmalinguistics, ethnolinguistics. A detailed analysis of the scientific work shows that the address is a rather complex and contradictory category.
