Abstract

The Kazakh steppe is diverse, rich in flora and fauna. The national nature, spiritual culture and traditions of the people are shown by the names of plants corresponding to the relationship between nature and man. For many years, biological features and the structural system of plant names have been considered. And their semantics, the motivation for creating phytonyms, and national specifics still need to be studied.

The purpose of the research work is to determine their place in cognitive linguistics, to show their ethnographic character by taking the names of plants of the Kazakh language as objects. The significance of the research work consists in considering the etymology, linguistic features, medicinal properties, distinctive features of holiness, magic, myths of such phytonyms, like harlama, wormwood, cane, almonds, walnuts. When writing the article, methods of description, lexico-semantic analysis, and systematization were used. As a result of the research work, information was provided about the benefits of adyraspan, about its main features, and the ideas of the Turkish and Kazakh peoples about this plant were compared. Having stopped at the etymology of the wormwood plant, the symbolic meaning in Kazakh cognition was taken into account. The definition of the phytonym of the reed is given, the ethnographic character is determined, and the interpretation of dreams associated with the reed is also considered. The theoretical opinions of scientists were taken into account, the peculiarities of the use of these plants in fiction, stable phrases and language units created on the basis of these plants were demonstrated. Comparisons, phraseological units, superstitious words and mythological information, beliefs found in linguistics, samples of oral literature related to these plants were considered. Practical significance of the study: using ethnographic dictionaries, the ethnolinguistic nature of these plants was revealed. On the basis of the anthropotopic paradigm, the consideration of units related to the names of plants in connection with the cognitive thinking ability of a person is undertaken.
