THE QUESTION OF STUDYING AND CLASSIFICATION OF FAUSTIAN PLOTS AND MOTIVES IN RUSSIAN CLASSICAL LITERATURE

Abstract

The article raises the problem of studying Faustian motifs, highlights their origins and transformation in Russian literature on the example of the works of A. S. Pushkin and I. S. Turgenev. The article also examines Russian classical literature on the subject of Faustian motifs; the concepts of "Faustian" and "Faustian" are distinguished; a comparative analysis of the image of the original Faust and his Russian "copies" is carried out. The researcher comes to the conclusion that the image of the medieval warlock and magician Johann Faust in Russian literature is endowed with new qualities and is one of the most frequently encountered. As a methodology in the course of the work, the methods of linguistic and literary text analysis, as well as the method of comparing literary texts, were used.

The practical significance of this scientific work lies in the possibility of discovering new aspects of the creativity of the authors under study, identifying the connections of literary heroes that have become the result of the so-called dialogue of cultures. As a result of the study, we came to the conclusion that the image of Dr. Faust is not purely Western - the comparative analysis of literary heroes allows us to assert the existence of the image of the "Russian Faust", which first appeared on the pages of Russian classical literature. The conducted research will be useful not only for literary studies, but also in the lessons of Russian literature in schools and universities, as it allows organizing the study of the works of these writers not in isolation, but in connection with established literary traditions. In addition, such a technique will open the classic image of Faust in a new light.
