Abstract

This article focuses on the linguistic and cultural analysis, as well as the comparison, of kinship relationships in the Kazakh and Kyrgyz languages. Kinship terms are part of the oldest lexical stock, holding a special place in a language's lexicon and presenting interest due to the complexity of their historical development. Kinship names are a unique cultural treasure, passed down through generations, shaping vocabulary and absorbing elements of culture, history, social status, and interpersonal relationships. The scientific and practical significance of this work lies in the cultural function of kinship terms. The anthroponymic lexicon of Kazakh and Kyrgyz languages contains numerous personal names, nicknames, and kinship names that remain insufficiently studied. This issue indicates the need for an in-depth study of kinship terms, both active and passive vocabulary, their relevance, history, and the collection and systematization of materials, including dictionary creation. The novelty of this research involves an analysis of differences in the terminology of the Kazakh and Kyrgyz linguistic and cultural context, referred to in historical sources and literature under the common name “Kirgiz.” The aim of this article is to analyze kinship terms in Kazakh and Kyrgyz, identify the features of their use, and examine the linguistic and cultural characteristics of kinship terms in both languages. The research materials include bilingual dictionaries and works of contemporary scholars. Methods used in the study include generalization, description, comparison, and thematic analysis. As a result, the linguistic characteristics of expressing kinship relationships in Kyrgyz and Kazakh were analyzed, with their common and specific features identified. The findings of this work may serve as a basis for further research on Turkic languages, particularly in fields such as linguocultural studies and linguistics, including kinship term analysis, dictionary creation, and similar research.
