Abstract

The article under consideration is devoted to the nature, features, semantic and thematic analysis of phraseological combinations with the food component in the English and Kazakh languages. The purpose of the scientific research is to identify the similarities and differences of phraseological units with the food component in two unrelated languages, to convey their linguocultural characteristics. The objectives of the research are to study the classification types, specific featutes and to analyze the samples of phraseological units with the food componentin English and Kazakh languages.

Although the field of phraseology, phraseological analysis in general, is one of the most studied and widely discussed topics in English and Kazakh, there are almost no significant studies that have studied specific phraseological units with the food component. In this article, the authors identify the food components that are often found in such phraseological units in both languages, clarify their linguocultural manifestation, frequency of transmission, and analyze the features inherent in both linguocultures.

The study conducted semantic, thematic, structural and comparative linguistic analyses, selected phraseologisms with the food component in both languages from dictionaries, and examined their meaning, ways of formation, and cognitive, linguocultural characteristics. In addition, the linguocultural, cognitive phraseological conceptual characteristics of the most frequently used main food names in English and Kazakh were determined.

According to the results of the study, the number of phraseologisms with the food component in English and Kazakh is not large, and their meaning is mostly related to human behavior, actions, and the meaning of earning money. While their use in English is related to the types of food and water that the English eat in everyday life, it was found that they have a deep meaning and historical significance in Kazakh. The phraseologisms with the food component given for analysis in the study can be used to compile dictionaries in both languages, and to teach special lectures on comparative lexicology and phraseology.
