Abstract

Due to the fact that onomatopoeic, figurative words make up a very large group of words in the Kazakh language, there are also many words derived from them; in Kazakh literature, writers actively use imitative vocabulary. Authors-translators face a number of problems, since it is difficult to find a direct translation of imitatives, in many cases words, phenomena that are close in meaning, or sometimes even an explanation of the word are used. There are cases when the translation of imitative words is omitted, because they are completely untranslatable, while the expressiveness of the language of a work of art, emotionality, national color, and individualization of the characters' speech are lost.

The study used methods of comparative analysis, as well as inductive and deductive research methods.

To achieve this goal, the author studied the specificity of translations of imitatives from the Kazakh language into Russian on the example of S. Muratbek's story "Жусан иісі"/"Горький запах полыни" [Bitter smell of wormwood].

Based on the study, we can conclude that the translation of imitatives (imitative, onomatopoeic words) has its own specifics and a number of difficulties. The given factual examples clearly indicate that the translator deliberately omits some of them, while others are not translated at all, retaining only the meaning of the sentence. When transcribing the text of a foreign language, the colorfulness, liveliness and national specificity of the language are lost.
